Writing Workshop Communication: Using Overview Docs to Communicate with Students

Writing

Overview Docs help you communicate with every student in your room, but especially those who need support with copies of notes and those who are chronically absent! They also provide streamlined one-stop communication with administrators, parents, and colleagues.

howtoHere you can take a peek at a completed overview document from this school year! And here’s a template you can use to make your own!

How do you communicate about the nitty-gritty of a particular writing workshop with students? How do you help absent students get caught up on mini-lessons? I’d love to hear your ideas below in the comments or you can find me on Twitter @RebekahOdell1.

  1. Anna,

I honestly just skimmed through this but it seems so, SO helpful. And smart.

  2. This is a wonderful tool! I particularly like that the doc is built as you go. I also love that the photos of the anchor charts are included. The walls of our classrooms need revision, too. This allows for an “always anchor wall,” albeit virtual, as a reference. Thanks!
